GPS tracking has two kinds of cost: one-time hardware and installation per vehicle, and a monthly subscription. Here are Kikavu Tech Solutions prices in Tanzanian shillings.
Price list per vehicle
| Tracking device | From TZS 110,000 (depends on device type) |
| Fuel level sensor (optional) | TZS 270,000 |
| Installation | TZS 50,000 per GPS device; TZS 100,000 with a fuel sensor |
| Subscription, within Tanzania | TZS 35,000 per month |
| Subscription, travelling outside Tanzania | TZS 65,000 per month |
| Minimum subscription payment | 6 months |
Worked example
One vehicle in Tanzania with a GPS device (from 110,000), a fuel sensor (270,000), installation (100,000) and 6 months of subscription (6 x 35,000 = 210,000) starts from TZS 690,000. For a vehicle that crosses the border, six months of subscription is 6 x 65,000 = 390,000, so the total starts from TZS 870,000.
Why add a fuel sensor
A GPS device shows where the vehicle is. A fuel level sensor also shows fuel level, refuelling events and suspected fuel loss, which is where many fleets lose money.
Buyer checklist
- Is the subscription price different for cross-border vehicles?
- What is the minimum subscription period?
- Can you see vehicles on your phone and on a computer?
- Can reports be tailored to how you run your fleet?
- Can tracking data link to your own management system?
